pssh, art is a career! hello commercials? and ads and all that? graphic design is a big thing. How do they think companies get people to buy things? art stuff.

Anyway yeah I went to Portland, OR for school and went into Media Arts and Animation. I'm doing okay, I'm doing freelance design right now. It's sucks cuz you gotta keep looking for clients if they only come for a one time project and the economy sucks so it's hard to find work and people willing to pay for art. especially when they think it should be cheap when it isn't. Damn people who try to rip artist off.

But yeah what kind of art are you going into? graphic design which is more like design and probably has more job openings especially in web design. Illustrations is a tough business, you gotta be kick ass and know how to advertise yourself. which i kinda suck at cuz i'm not very social. but yeah they should be supportive in whatever you chose. Art is awesome like that and is totally a real career it's just that sometimes you need to sell yourself and do something that can get you a job like 3d animation or modeling while doing your other stuff on the side that you hope will be big and feed your bank account so you can go do that instead of stare at a computer till your eyeballs bleed.
